Sunday’s 55th Grammy’s has its ups and downs

Being nominated for and performing at the Grammy’s are what every musician strives for.  Sunday marked the awards’ 55th year, with performances from Taylor Swift, Ed Sheeran, Elton John, Maroon 5, Alicia Keys, Fun., the Black Keys, and many others.  Some excelled, and others…not so much.

Ed Sheeran’s performance with Elton John was fantastic. They performed Ed’s song, “The A-Team,” and their chemistry together on stage was phenomenal. I really liked the acoustic take on the song with Elton playing the piano, and the high-five they gave each other at the end made it even more perfect!

Maroon 5 and Alicia Keys’ performance was amazing, too. They were two artists I couldn’t see pairing up to perform together. But it really worked,  though I was caught off guard by Alicia Keys’ drumming. They performed Alicia’s “Girl on Fire” and Maroon 5’s “Daylight”. It was an interesting mix, but I loved it.

From sappy love songs to wanting to cause public humiliation to any man who breaks her heart, Taylor Swift writes it all. Her new album, Red, released on the 22nd, is just as diverse.

Swift is a twenty-two-year-old country-pop artist from Pennsylvania who moved to Nashville to pursue her music career at the young age of fourteen.

Swift has won forty-two awards for her four albums, and she was honored an award by the Songwriter’s Hall of Fame as well. It’s safe to say Taylor has gone far for someone so young. I guess all those heartbreaks really paid off!

Red was topping the iTunes chart within thirty-six minutes of its release. It sold 262,000 copies it’s first day, which is more than some bands can’t even sell in a year! Swift’s album is very different than her others.

Unlike the typical country or pop songs, this album has many different genres and emotions behind it, which is what really makes me enjoy this album. Every song sounds unique.

Here’s a few songs I enjoy the most:
